ABOUT CFW

Concern for Women (CFW) is a Gambian‑registered, women‑led organisation dedicated to protecting the rights, safety, and dignity of women and girls across The Gambia. Rooted in community, culture, and compassion, our work focuses on tackling harmful practices while creating real, sustainable pathways to education, independence, and long‑term security.

With over 30 passionate volunteers working on the ground, we collaborate directly with local communities to create change that is practical, respectful, and lasting. We believe that when women are supported, families thrive and entire communities become stronger.

MEET Aunty Fama

At the heart of Concern for Women is Aunty Fama, our founder and programme coordinator.

Aunty Fama is a deeply respected advocate for women’s rights and has dedicated over 30 years of her life to protecting women and girls in The Gambia. Her work began long before Concern for Women was formally established - supporting women quietly, consistently, and courageously within her community.

Known for her warmth, strength, and commitment, Aunty Fama has supported countless women facing violence and exploitation, advocated against FGM and harmful practices, educated families and community leaders on women’s rights and safety, and acted as a trusted point of support for women with nowhere else to turn.

Her lived experience, cultural knowledge, and dedication to helping the women of her community guide every programme we deliver. Under her leadership, Concern for Women remains grounded in empathy, integrity, and action.

OUR Volunteers

Our impact would not be possible without our incredible team of volunteers.

With over 30 volunteers working across The Gambia, our team includes members of the Gambian Armed Forces, police officers, and support workers who give their time, skills, and hearts to this mission. Many are women who have seen these challenges first‑hand and are passionate about creating change for the next generation.

OUR Approach

At Concern for Women, we don’t impose solutions, we build them with communities.

Our programmes are designed and delivered alongside local leaders, families, and women who understand the realities on the ground. This approach allows us to:

  • Build trust and long term relationships within communities

  • Create open dialogue around sensitive issues

  • Encourage long‑term behavioural and cultural change

  • Ensure women feel heard, respected, and supported in The Gambia

Change happens fastest when it is owned by the people it serves.

SUPPORT OUR CAUSE, SUPPORT OUR WOMEN.
